Diane Stemper - Artist

IMG_8979.JPG

The intersection between the natural world, daily living, science, and both the collective and individual experiences of landscape drives my ideas for my artist books. I am interested in the seam between human endeavors, natural occurrences, and encounters with specimens and species (both living and nonliving).

Diane Stemper received her B.F.A. in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from San Francisco State University. Most recently, Stemper exhibited her artist books in the exhibitions, A Symbiotic Affair, Special Collections, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio; The Printed Page, Regis University, Denver, Colorado; and Out of the Stacks, 2018 FotoFocus Biennial, Cincinnati Book Arts Society and Lloyd Library and Museum, Cincinnati, Ohio.

In February 2019, Stemper was an exhibitor at Codex VII: International Book Fairin Richmond, California. In 2017, her work was included in Sandra Cinto's Library of Love, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati; and in

the exhibitions, Structure Unbound, Robert & Elaine Stein Gallery, Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio; and Outside the Margins: Artists' Books at Loyola Notre Dame University, Baltimore, Maryland. In 2015, Stemper's artist books were featured in the exhibition The Creative Codex: Books as Art in the Walter Havighurst Special Collections at Miami University in Ohio.

She is a recipient of two Ohio Arts Council Artist and Communities grants and is a member of Tiger Lily Press and of the Cincinnati Book Arts Society, exhibiting regularly in their annual Bookworks exhibit at the Cincinnati Main Public Library.
